We’re thrilled to welcome new families and would love to meet you in person at our Welcome BBQ + Movie Night Under the Stars—a great way to kick off the year together!
When: Friday, September 5th at 5PM
Where: De Portola Park
25615 Lazy Meadow Dr, Torrance, CA 90505
We’ll fire up the grill for burgers and hot dogs, then as the sun goes down, gather for a fun family movie under the stars. To help make it a true Pack celebration, we ask each family to bring a small shareable plate—side dish, salad, or dessert. Please RSVP and let us know how many are coming so we can be sure there’s plenty to go around!
Scouting is a parent-run program, and that’s part of what makes it so special. Last year, we proudly watched a big group of Cub Scouts—and their dedicated parents—graduate to the “big leagues” at the Troop level (Boy Scouts). Now, we have room for new families to jump in and help lead the way.
Whether it’s as a Den Leader, Assistant Den Leader, Committee Member, or just someone who can help out at a few events, there’s a role for everyone.
And the good news? It doesn’t take much. Just a couple of hours a month can make a huge difference in creating the kinds of memories our kids will carry for life.
So come share a meal, meet other families, and see what Pack 846 is all about. And if you know a family who might be curious about Scouting, feel free to forward this along—or better yet, bring them with you. The more the merrier!
Registration and Enrollment: Parents should register their child with the local Cub Scout pack or BSA council. This involves completing necessary paperwork, providing emergency contact information, and paying the annual membership fee.
Uniforms and Insignia: Parents should obtain the official Cub Scout uniform for their child, which includes a shirt, pants/shorts, belt, and appropriate insignia. Uniforms are typically available at Scout shops or online.
Communication: Stay in regular communication with the pack leadership to receive updates, announcements, and information about upcoming events, meetings, and activities.
Attendance: Encourage regular attendance at den meetings, pack meetings, and other scheduled activities. Consistent participation fosters a sense of belonging and progress in the program.
Volunteering: Parents are encouraged to get involved as volunteers in various capacities, such as den leaders, assistant den leaders, committee members, or event coordinators. Parental involvement is vital to the success of the Cub Scout program.
Youth Protection: All parents and adult volunteers must complete the BSA Youth Protection Training. This training ensures that adults understand their responsibilities in safeguarding the welfare of youth members.
Advancement Support: Assist your child in completing requirements for rank advancement and earning achievements. Keep track of their progress in the Cub Scout handbook and work with den leaders to ensure they are on the right path.
Family Involvement: Cub Scouts is a family-oriented program, and parents are encouraged to participate in family activities, campouts, and outings. Family involvement creates a stronger bond between children and their parents.
Fundraising: Support the pack's fundraising efforts to help cover expenses for activities, equipment, and campouts. Participation in fundraising events shows your commitment to the success of the Cub Scout program. Pack 846 will host a Pancake Fundraiser in the 2nd half of the year.
Outdoor Preparedness: Ensure your child is properly equipped for outdoor activities and campouts. Check the packing list provided by the pack for each event and make sure they have appropriate clothing, gear, and snacks.
Safety Awareness: Review safety guidelines with your child, emphasizing proper use of equipment, staying with the group during outings, and following the instructions of adult leaders.
Positive Reinforcement: Recognize and celebrate your child's achievements and efforts in Scouting. Positive reinforcement boosts their confidence and motivates them to continue their journey in Cub Scouts.
Respect for Diversity: Encourage your child to embrace the values of Scouting, which include respect for others, their cultures, and beliefs. Scouting is inclusive and fosters an environment where all are welcome.
Communication with Leaders: Establish open lines of communication with den leaders and pack committee members. If you have any concerns or questions, do not hesitate to reach out to them.
Enjoy the Journey: Above all, encourage your child to have fun and enjoy their time in Cub Scouts. The program is designed to be both educational and enjoyable, providing them with memorable experiences and lifelong skills.
By actively participating in the Cub Scout program and supporting your child's journey, you can make a significant impact on their personal growth and development.
